THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA : Do and Don’t (Part 3)

The Prime Minister's Office

Dr. Mahathir is pointing his fingers towards foreign presses in his blog in defending the PM. Just recently, he was re-admitted to UMNO, and now as usual he is the busiest retiree in Malaysia. I guess, because of his love for his country, he is tirelessly putting his neck fighting for others. He defended Anwar before, he loved Pak Lah initially and now he is defending the new PM. Come on guys, he is already more than 80 years old, and yet he the one who is at the front against the might of foreign presses, to defend the PM of Malaysia.

I don’t mind if our own peoples criticise the PM, and in fact I welcome it. But if Malaysians are colloborating with foreign elements to tarnish our image by attacking our top leader, then something must be wrong somewhere. I think we should protect the Prime Ministership and not the Prime Minister. That’s why the political parties should always be aware of the consequences if they chose the wrong leader. We need a leader who can defend the country and not just busy defending himself or herself. We want a leader who regard Malaysia as his main and sole agenda and not his political survival. Unfortunately, in Malaysia regardless of parties, apparently our politicans are good at championing their personal goals than rakyat as a whole.

Nevertheless, it’s too soon to tell the performance of our PM, but I wish he should have learnt from past mistakes (his own or others) like we all should. We are so lucky compared to the PM, because we are not to be judged by public like him. Conversely, the Public is actually the real PM, who determine the right person to be delegated with powers to rule and to serve and not the other way around. Let the Public decides who they want to be their defender. Actually, PM is supposed to be the Public Defender and not the Public is the Defender of the PM. But is it right? Ironically, most of the times, and sometimes even in a traffic jam, we must give a way to the PM or his wife and not the other way around..such a pity!!!.

THE PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA: Do and Don’t! (Part 1)

Najib Razak
Image via Wikipedia
Dear Mr Prime Minister..

1) To differentiate clearly between UMNO and BN from the Government. UMNO and BN are political parties which under democratic system have been empowered to form a federal government. The Government is regulated under the principles of Separation of Powers, Rule of Law and Constitutional Monarchy who is answerable not only to members of political parties but more importantly to the citizens as a whole. The Federal and State Government is founded under democratic system which is to ensure that the Government can implement its laws and policies smoothly and efficiently.
It’s a conventional practice (also a branch of laws) that the President of UMNO shall automatically become the Prime Minister of Malaysia. But this practice should not tantamount to a guarantee or label that UMNO is Government and Government is UMNO. President of UMNO and Prime Minister of Malaysia are two different entities/institutions and a clear line should be drawn to distinguish each other. As such, whenever Najib talks as A Prime Minister, the peoples would understand that the message is for them and just for BN or UMNO. The UMNO and BN members must also realise, Najib is accountable to all and not just them.

2) Do not ever threaten or intimidate the non-supporters of BN like saying that the opposition leaders are hopeless peoples. It would create hatred among Malaysian peoples. Let UMNO and BN do it. It is a clear difference between politic and government administration. If he condemns and criticize oppositions or others when he is wearing a Prime Minister’s hat, he actually puts himself in a defensive mode WHENEVER he is trying to put forward his agenda, because the targeted audience would be limited to his supporters and not his detractors. He just needs to explain in simple and inspiring terms and language for everybody and leave rhetorical speeches during UMNO or BN assembly.

3) Instruct other UMNO leaders not to raise racial sentiments like what Zahid did recently. Being part of the Government, he should not do that. Let UMNO, its member or members of the Supreme Council who are not in government to take up that role. No point for them to be there if they do not champion the Malays’ causes.

4) To come up with a catchy tagline, motto or brand for UMNO and BN. “BN for All”, “BN to Serve not to Rule”, “BN is the Future”, “UMNO sayang Semua”, “UMNO Kampungku, BN Milikku dan Semua”, “Your Future is BN”, “UMNO untuk Semua”, “UMNO sayang Melayu” and others. BN can no longer rely on racial issues to be a champion. This approach is getting absolete. BN must be forward thinking and see history as a guideline and not a precedent. Najib must steer Malaysia, BN and UMNO along this line. Rakyat comes first, party comes second.

5) To come up with a new oath for all Malaysians. More inspiring than Rukunegara or modify it insuch a way that everytime we read it, we would be the proud Malaysians. And this oath must be read in any government fuctions. It is a universal and standard oath to Malaysian in which among other things, spelt out about bribery, good governance and excellent service. It will become Malaysian aspiration of this nation and government. Talk to the oppositions in formulating its content, so that everybody would accept. The bypartisan approach must be adopted if the outcome is intended to benefit the nation as a whole. Rakyat (the citizen) would definitely appreciate this move.

DISHONESTY IN UMNO

Mahathir was featured on the facade of Telekom...
Image via Wikipedia
Listening to the the speech of the new President of UMNO recently, I cannot help but to draw one ultimate conclusion, that UMNO is on the brink of collapse if it does not transform fast. Looking at the results of the party election, I am of the opinion that the practice of dishonesty such as money politic, abuse of power or position is still rampant in UMNO. There were many speculation and conclusion that have been made from all sorts of voices, but I am still sceptical of the party direction in future. Mahathir as usual, had made a grand re-entry for the purpose of regaining confidence and support, but it would not generally change the perspective or perception of the peoples in general towards UMNO. I felt like laughing my heart out when witnessing the top leaders of UMNO kissing Mahathir’s hand were the same leaders who urging the party to sack Mahathir from UMNO, the same leaders who were quiet when Mahathir was outcast…that’s a reality of politic in UMNO.

In general, UMNO is comprised of honest peoples, but due to some bad apples, its credibilty has been tarnished beyond repair. There are a basket of dishonest peoples in UMNO, and they are not just the leaders but also the followers. In party election, may be the aspirant contestants did not give any monetary reward to the voters, which i doubt it did not happen, but using one position as a minister to reward a contract, it’s also deemed as dishonest action. By giving a non monetary kick back, it also tantamount to bribery and abuse of power. And normally the contestants who are holding the important positions in government, or being the bankable ministers(good ministries), they would normally win. And the fact that, the divisions which later on, would get a new facility, like a community hall, a school, or a road, would support the said ministers. The culture of “quid pro quo” is strong in UMNO. You scratch my back, i scratch yours. The members would normally support the leader, who they think will eventually help them or privy to powers like can help in getting his children to a good school or may help them to get a better treatment from government agency and so on.

The examples of dishonesty that I mention herein, may be in the eyes of certain quarters, as not serious compared to real act of bribery or stealing, but the amount of this unwarranted acts overwhelms such crimnal acts. This action is amounting to “quasi” to the actual criminal or unethical acts and as a result the abuse of power will be trangressed. This small trangression will lead to a bigger one, until they themselves do not know, what is right and what is wrong. It always a justification to unethical acts and it seems acceptable to everybody. If that so, UMNO will perish a bit by bit from this world. God forbids.

NEW BRAND FOR UMNO

UMNO TOWER
Image by Rescue Dog via Flickr
Tonight, we have seen a new line up of UMNO top leaders. Assuming that history will repeat, we basically can predict who will be UMNO leaders in future by looking at its line up. The delegates of General Assembly have spoken and at the same times,it is explicitly concluded that the grassroots have also spoken. Notwithstanding the accusation of money politic, UMNO as usual has decided on its leaders based on its own terms like nobody business.

Is UMNO changing? or it is just playing to the current tunes as a result of last election. UMNO is now desperately looking for a new image, tagline and brand. So far, its members become so confused of its direction, they are trying very hard to come up with a solution. May be by changing the top leaders is deemed a first step towards a new brand of UMNO..if it’s so, I am afraid, the step is not really effective. Probably being an UMNO member, we can wait but not the rakyat.

Time is running out, clock is ticking, information is moving digitally, but UMNO is still in its own world. UMNO is urgently and impatiently hungry of a new energised image or brand which can regain not just its own self-confident but more importantly the rakyat confidence in the party. Can Najib do it? Will Muhyiddin help him? Will Zahid, Hishamuddin and Shafie be able to reenergise UMNO? Will KJ be a spoiler? Will Sharizat be a good motherly leader? Will Rosnah defy the odds? Will Majlis Tertinggi be supremely and extraordinarily efficient in shaping the new UMNO?

UMNO will fail if the same old thought being practised by its leaders and members. The entire brand of UMNO must change, and they must change quickly and swiftly. UMNO and Barisan Nasional is difinitely lucky if looking at Pakatan Rakyat. UMNO is lucky because it has Government Servants and the laws on its side. Whatever decisions made by UMNO, rakyat is watching. Eventhough majority of rakyat seems oblivious of UMNO actions, but believe it or not, PRU13 will be the determining factor as to whether UMNO is relevant. As for now, I’m still sceptical.

TOUGH UMNO WITH NO TEETH

Official logo of United Malays National Organi...
Image via Wikipedia
Hahahahahahahahaha….it’s amusing listening to the UMNO Disciplinary Commitee explaining themselves recently pertaining to their action against the selective aspirant leaders. Money Politics
has become an epidemic, it’s hardly curable. It seems harder to eliminate this culture due to ineffective internal mechanism and nepotism.

Although it’s quite late for me to say as the outcome of preliminary results of UMNO election on its Youth, Puteri and Wanita already being decided by so-called delegates of its grassroot. The question is whether the results reflect the real voice of its member…it seems dubious to me, however that’s the price of democracy.

Let’s us hope that the rhetoric speech of UMNO leaders would not aggravate this protracted disease which has been hauting UMNO for so long, but a fact of the matter is, that how hard this Party tries to show off its tough decent and clean image, the damage has been done. But luckily it’s not entirely true when its leaders repeatedly said that UMNO is Malay and Malay is UMNO, because if it’s true, i feel like throwing out.

Habis Pakatan Rakyat!

Lim Guan Eng
Image via Wikipedia
Najib said that Pakatan Rakyat is currently in shambles..is it true? Never mind lah..it’s normal to have a disagreement within the family. “Lidah sendiri lagikan tergigit”. I think PR is capable to resolve any issue between them in the open. Being transparent is what PR wants, right? Should not be ashamed of your weaknesses..Not everything done behind a closed door is good especially if you want to cover up something or someone..

Barisan Nasional (BN) has been practising secrecy for so long, until they do not even know the real feeling of their friends. MCA, MIC and GERAKAN were always being supportive in BN until recently, they are showing their true colours. Apparently, Koh Shu Koon was not at all times in agreement with UMNO, but what the heck, as long as he’s in power, he could tolerate UMNO, but now, no more lah. I think nothing that GERAKAN can do now, as Penang would be under DAP for a long time..especially when looking at Lim Guan Eng taking an economy seat in MAS.

So please lah UMNO, just because the PR is bickering over a councillor seat or the ADUNS are not happy with MB and so on, now you think they would stop cooperating with each other to defeat BN. Despite PAS wants to implement Hudud especially during Kuala Trengganu’s by election, DAP and PKR would always find the common ground to ensure they won’t break the alliances. So, if much rhetoric and gimmick being applied in BN, PR also practises the same. It is just political and nothing more. As for rakyat in general, we are still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.

BN should resolve their own issues first and after that they can talk about others, don’t be like “paku dulang paku serpih, mengata orang dia yang lebih”!. In BN, you all are so secretive and tightlipped, it finally becomes rotten. And when it comes out to the open, it’s so smelly.

There are a lot at stake. PR would not jeorpadise their good fortune. They will guard it with their life. It’s a routine pratice for them to contradict each other, but it won’t change anything!.

Nasihat untuk PKR

Hadi Awang and Anwar Ibrahim at the Bersih Rally
Image via Wikipedia
Walaupun apa UMNO cakap tentang Anwar..kita kena akui bahawa Malaysia perlu pemimpin seperti beliau.

PKR menjadi kuat kerana Anwar. PR kuat kerana Anwar. BN kalah di Selangor, Perak dan Kedah kerana Anwar. Rakyat semakin berani kerana Anwar. Rakyat protes kerana Anwar.

Anwar Ibrahim speaks during a rally at Kelana ...
Image via Wikipedia

Maka, jikalau UMNO mahu seorang lagi Dr Mahathir, maka lupakan lah. Ianya datang sekali..tetapi jikalau UMNO hendak terus kekuasaannya, maka Anwar Ibrahim lah tempat mengadu.

Khairy Jamaluddin, Deputy Youth Chief of Baris...
Image via Wikipedia
Bahang Pilihanraya menjelma kembali sempena Pilihanraya Kecil Kuala Trengganu.
